UV rays from the sun don’t just cause sunburns; they can also cause your furniture and other valuables such as artwork and rugs to fade. Fortunately, with high-quality replacement windows, you can avoid this problem.
Good window design can moderate the admission of UV light into your house. In addition to using window treatments, buying ENERGY STAR®-certified fenestration products is key to reducing the negatives of constant exposure to UV rays. Renewal by Andersen® of Portland’s windows fit the bill.
All our High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass packages have exceptional energy-efficiency ratings, but they filter out UV rays differently.
Low-E4 Glass
Our standard glass option blocks 84% of UV light from entering your home without compromising the amount of natural light that penetrates. It allows 42% of solar heat to enter and has a 0.25 U-factor, which meets the requirements of all U.S. climate zones.
Low-E4 SmartSun™ Glass
This glass solution deflects 95% of UV light. The biggest trade-off is that only 65% of daylight can pass through. But in exchange, choosing this option for your replacement windows reduces solar heat gain to just 28% and improves the insulating quality of the window to a U-factor of 0.24.
Low-E4 Sun Glass
This glass blocks 84% of UV radiation and has a 0.25 U-factor. It limits the entry of natural light to 40%, turning too bright to just right. When it comes to solar heat gain prevention, this glass is the most effective, allowing only 26% of the sun’s infrared light.
All of Renewal by Andersen of Portland’s glass options are excellent in terms of UV protection, but their overall energy efficiency isn’t equal.
