Planning for your next window replacement project? At Renewal by Andersen® of Portland, we recommend choosing energy-efficient windows. Compared to regular windows, they perform better and provide more benefits.

If you’re not familiar with what makes a window energy-efficient, this post can help you. Read on as we share some of the features you should look for:
1. ENERGY STAR®-Certified
A window is energy-efficient if it is ENERGY STAR-certified. To earn this certification, windows have to be independently tested and verified by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). Furthermore, the windows must receive NRFC ratings that meet the energy efficiency guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
2. Made of High-Quality Frame Materials
An energy-efficient window has a frame that is made of high-quality materials such as Fibrex. Fibrex has superior insulation that allows your home to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It also has excellent NRFC ratings, making it an excellent choice for window replacement.
3. Composed of Multiple Panes
Energy-efficient windows should have at least two panes of glass with a gas-filled space in between them. These types of windows have better insulating properties compared to single-paned windows. For better performance, some windows have three or more panes.
4. Low-E Glass
Look for windows that come with Low-E glass. This type of glass contains a special coating that keeps the heat in during the winter months and out during the summer months. Low-E glass also blocks ultraviolet light and protects the contents of the room from harmful UV rays.
5. Gas-Filled Panes
Energy-efficient windows have panes that are filled with colorless, odorless, and non-toxic gases like krypton and argon. Compared to standard air, these types of gases provide better insulation and therefore better energy-efficiency.
Renewal by Andersen products meet all these qualifications, making them a worthwhile investment for your window replacement. Let us help you choose the perfect window that meets your needs.
