4 Common Problems Associated with Vinyl Windows

Vinyl is one of the most popular materials used for window replacement. However, that doesn’t mean it is your best option. Like any other material, it comes with specific issues. While they can be virtually maintenance-free, exceptions still happen.

To help you make an informed decision, Renewal by Andersen® of Portland shares the top four problems associated with vinyl.

1. Limited Customization

Although vinyl windows are available in a variety of colors and designs, they can’t be repainted. If you were to renovate your home and change the color of your window, you’d have to replace your vinyl window altogether.

If you’re after design flexibility, then go for Fibrex®. You’ll have more color and style options because the material can be painted.

2. Sensitivity To Heat

Vinyl is a flexible material, but this flexibility is also a drawback. It tends to warp or contract when heat builds up in the frames. This won’t happen with a Fibrex. Fibrex is a rigid material that maintains its stability no matter what the weather is.

3. Poor Sealing

The warping of vinyl replacement windows can also cause air to get in through the frames. You’d need to apply caulk from time to time to maintain proper air sealing. With Fibrex, you don’t need to worry about this time of periodic maintenance because of its weathertight seals.

4. Susceptible To Damage Over Time

Vinyl is not the most durable material for windows as it tends to show signs of extensive wear and tear after around 8 to 10 years. Fibrex won’t have this problem as it’s resistant to rotting, fungal growth, and corrosion. When installed by professionals, it can last 50 years or longer.

There are several other ways our Fibrex material outperforms vinyl, which is why we recommend it for your next window replacement project.
