4 Mistakes Experienced Window Installers Don’t Make

Window replacement is not a job for DIY enthusiasts. Even if you are handy, without the right training and equipment, you could make a mistake that would be costly to repair. Instead, you should hire an experienced window installer to get the job done. When you hire an experienced professional, you can expect nothing but proper workmanship and beautiful new windows that will perform as expected for many years to come.

Here are the six window installation mistakes that experienced installers won’t make.

1. Not Following the Instructions – When a professional installs a new window in your home, you don’t have to worry about them failing to follow instructions. Different windows have different installation requirements based on extensive lab and field testing. As such, since window installers want you to get the best out of your windows, they’ll follow the manufacturer’s instructions to the letter when installing your windows.

2. Misusing Spray Foam – Spray foam is important for every window as it helps prevent water intrusion. However, applying spray foam requires care and precision. Window replacement experts will avoid the mistake of misusing spray foam, as dispensing too much of it can distort your window frame.

3. Improperly Installing Head Flashing – Another mistake that experienced window installers will avoid making is improperly installing the head flashing of the windows. This rigid head flashing, or drip cap, should always be properly incorporated into the window’s flashing system. Otherwise, water infiltration could occur.

4. Adding Sealant Without Gloves – When adding sealant or spray foam to a window, window installers will always use a pair of gloves to get the job done. By doing so, they can avoid making things harder on the homeowner as sealants and spray foam can be difficult to remove from unfinished wood.
