Energy-efficient windows have a lot of advantages. They are a worthy upgrade from old traditional windows and they can save you energy and money. It’s best to learn more about one of the most in-demand windows. To help with your research, window replacement expert Renewal by Andersen® of Portland answers frequently asked questions about energy-efficient windows.

You should be informed about energy-efficient windows before installing them in your home. This way, you are properly knowledgeable on how to maintain and use them well. We are here to help you with the terms and other questions you have about energy-efficient windows.

Q. What Is Low-E glass?

A. Low-E means low emittance. Energy-efficient windows have low emittance glass. This glass is coated with a Low-E clear material that blocks the transmission of ultraviolet rays from outside. This prevents ultraviolet rays from causing damage to your interior furnishings. Low-E windows are also known to be insulated, helping your HVAC system to save energy.

Q. What Is Insulated glass?

A. The truth is energy-efficient replacement windows do not have insulated glass. The term is referring to how the insulation separates the panes of glasses. The glasses is separated at the edges with air in between them. This is what makes it possible for the windows to provide thermal efficiency.

Q. What Is a Gas-Filled Window?

A. Energy-efficient windows have inert gas between the panes of their glass. Manufacturers commonly used argon gas to insulate better. This method increases the thermal value of your window.

Q. What Is the Difference Between R-Value and U-Value?

A. U-value rates the heat transfer through your windows while R-value measures the heat resistance. A lower U-value is ideal, this means that the window is effective in blocking out heat or cold. Meanwhile, a higher R-value shows that your windows are well insulated.
