How to Make Your Home Look Bigger Than It Really Is

Is your home feeling cramped these days? Fortunately, there are ways to make your space look and feel larger without actually moving to a new home.

Here are some tricks to make the interior of your home look and feel bigger.

Optimize Your Space

Remember that every unutilized nook in your house is wasted space. This doesn’t mean you n eed to populate that area with furniture; ot simply means you have to re-evaluate how you use these vacant spaces. If you have an area under the staircase, you can turn it into a linen closet or a cupboard where you keep your vacuum cleaner, extra electric fans and other clutter. Consider installing replacement windows in a style that will give the illusion of a much bigger space. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors can also be installed when there is a lack of windows.

Rearrange Your Furniture

You don’t have to be an interior designer to shift your furniture around; you simply have to follow the flow of the architecture of your house. For instance, avoid placing tables against the contour of your dining room, or try arranging your couches in a linear fashion if your living room is narrow. Pick a theme, be it minimalist or traditional and stick with it as much as possible. This uniformity will not only make your interior look put-together but also bigger.

Choose Multi-Purpose Furniture

Ottomans are great because they can serve as a coffee table, foot stool and storage bin all in one. L-shaped sofas are also extremely versatile because they can function as two separate couches instead of just one unit. For door installation, choose sliding doors, which don’t need any extra square footage to open.

Repaint

An easy way to make an illusion of a bigger interior is to repaint with lighter colors. A bright space looks more spacious. Darker-colored wood typically used for dining tables can look somber, so repainting can rejuvenate the look of the space.
