4 Signs That You Need to Replace Your Windows

Like any part of your home’s exterior, your windows are only designed to last for so many years. Over time, wear and tear from constant exposure to the elements will take its toll and your windows will reach the end of their service life. If you see any of the following signs, you will need to invest in a window replacement soon:

  1. Visible Signs of Wear and Tear: Old windows tend to show their age. Depending on the extent of damage, you might be able to get by with a simple repair—otherwise a full replacement might be necessary. Worn hardware can be easily replaced, but warped or structurally compromised frames are nearly impossible to reverse, and will likely need replacement. Renewal by Andersen replacement windows can save you from future grief: our Fibrex® material window frames keep their shape even under extreme weather conditions, and will never warp or crack.
  2. Higher-Than-Normal Energy Bills: Windows account for a significant percentage of your home’s energy efficiency. If your windows have started developing leaks—signs include drafts and condensation on the window panes—then you’ll likely notice a corresponding increase in your energy bills, especially during the winter and summer. Replacing your windows with energy-efficient variants solves this problem.
  3. Your Home Looks Like It Needs a Makeover: If you haven’t had your home remodeled in decades, it’s probably time for a makeover. Or perhaps you’re not your home’s first owner, and the previous owner’s tastes don’t exactly align with your own. Whatever the case may be, window replacement should always be considered when remodeling. In addition to all the other benefits, window replacements can meaningfully boost your home’s curb appeal.
  4. A Heavy Storm Recently Hit Your Area: If a strong storm recently tore through your neighborhood and damaged your windows, you’ll want to have them repaired or replaced promptly before more bad weather hits. Have your windows inspected not just by the insurance adjuster, but by a window expert who can accurately assess the amount of damage. The seals around the windows and between the panes may be compromised, which could result in energy loss.
