Making the Most of Window Replacement During the Fall

If your windows are old and drafty, it’s probably time to replace them. While summer is the busiest time of the year for window replacement contractors, fall is also a great time to tackle this project. Read on as Renewal by Andersen® of Portland explains what you need to know about replacing your windows in the fall.

Choose a Sunny Day for the Installation

If possible, schedule your window replacement project on a sunny day during mid-morning. This will give the window materials a chance to warm up and expand. Note that some sealants require up to 24 hours to set and shouldn’t be exposed to moisture during this time, so check the forecast before confirming your project date. Your contractor should of course be well aware of what weather conditions are needed to ensure best results for the installation.

Choose the Right Caulk and Sealant

Silicone-based caulk is generally better at waterproofing and weatherization (which helps in keeping air leakages at bay) than acrylic or latex products, plus it also more readily adheres to replacement windows at colder temperatures. Look for a sealant with high joint movement capability because they perform better in cold weather.

Choose an Experienced Window Contractor

You can’t control the weather, but you can control who you hire to install your windows. The single best thing you can do to ensure the success of your project is to vet your contractor carefully and choose someone with an excellent track record and many years of experience. They’ll know exactly what to do given specific seasonal challenges, so you’ll have nothing to worry about.
