The Do’s and Don’ts of Renewal by Andersen® Product Staining

Staining your windows doesn’t just extend their lifespan and delay the need for window replacement, but also give them a natural, wooden look and feel. In today’s post, you’ll learn the do’s and don’ts for staining Renewal by Andersen® windows.

Do: Practice

Before you stain the actual window, practice the staining procedure on a natural wood veneered sample piece. This will allow you to determine whether you feel confident staining the windows yourself and will ensure that any mistakes are avoided on the actual window.

Don’t: Stain Grilles Without Removing From Window

If you plan to stain the grilles of your replacement windows, be sure to remove them first. Avoid getting the solution on the grilles while they’re attached to the window. Otherwise, you might damage the glass, which might require a costly replacement.

Do: Clean the Surface First

Before you start staining, use a wood conditioner to remove oils, residue and dust, especially if you’ve just sanded the window. Otherwise, the stain may not adhere properly to the surface. A clean surface will enable a stronger bond between the window’s stain and veneer.

Don’t: Stain Fibrex® Material

Fibrex doesn’t actually require any staining. Staining your Fibrex frames might cause permanent damage to your windows and void your limited warranty.
