Things You Need to Know About Energy-Efficient Windows

Your home is the one place you want to be secure. It is important that your living space is built with high-quality materials to ensure a comfortable lifestyle. When your cooling and heating costs, however, are increasing, you may want to consider a replacing your old windows because their deteriorating condition can cause air leakage.

Renewal by Andersen® of Portland, your premier window replacement specialist, talks about the things you need to know about energy-efficient windows.

R-Value and U-Value

The terms are essentially used in a distinctive way. R-value is used when discussing ceiling and wall insulation. It does not, however, translate well to window products. Window manufacturers coined the term U-value. These ratings are not to be confused because they are inversely related. A higher R-value indicates that walls and ceilings are well insulated while a lower U-value translates to a good-performing window that can keep heat and cold effectively.

Low-E Glass

This term stands for low-emissivity. The window glass is glazed with a clear material that prevents the transfer of ultraviolet (UV) rays from the outside to the inside of your home. They also enhance the thermal efficiency of the window while avoiding the fading effect of UV rays to interior furnishings. At Renewal by Andersen of Portland, we offer two energy-efficient glass packages that will suit your needs.

Our innovative High-Performance™ Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass is the most advanced glass for replacement windows we have offered. They are 70% more energy-efficient during summer and 45% more energy efficient during winter. We commit to the Andersen’s tradition of quality, innovation and craftsmanship.
