Window Replacement Part 1: What To Look For In A Window?

Are you planning to get replacement windows soon? You need to be a bit critical with your choice of new home hardware. Your windows, after all, play a big role in ventilating your home on top of improving its curb appeal and value. In part one of this two-part blog, Renewal by Andersen® of Portland discusses what to look for in a new window.

Durability

The first thing you need to consider is the durability of the window frame. Your windows take a surprisingly high amount of battery from the weather, and the strength of the material the window is made of also affects how long it operates.

Wood and vinyl are two of the most popular choices for window frames, while aluminum is a rarer alternative. When you’re planning to have window replacement done, make it a point to do some research on the material the window frame is made of.

Visual Appeal

Your windows are part of your home’s frontage, so it only follows that you should find a design and style that will improve your home’s curb appeal and add value to your property. There are several window designs to choose from, and when you’re choosing a style, it’s important to take your home’s architecture into account.

Bay and bow windows, for example, are better suited to traditional and classic-looking homes. Sliding windows, on the other hand, look better on contemporary and ultra-modern homes. There are some exceptions to this though – casement and double-hung windows fit well with any home design.

Energy Efficiency

Finally, you should take the energy efficiency of your new windows into account. While they’re primarily visual set pieces, they actually play a role in ventilating your home. The glass that comes with the windows is what you need to be critical of when it comes to energy efficiency.

In the second part of our two-part blog,  we’ll discuss why windows from Renewal by Andersen of Portland are the smart choice for window replacement.
