Window Styles for Specific Architectural Styles

It can be overwhelming to pick the right window style for your home. After all, you need to consider the window shape, style and accessories that will create the best visual appeal. You also need to be aware that some window styles are better suited to certain architectural styles than others. In today’s post, Renewal by Andersen® of Portland, the window replacement expert, shares a few home styles and discusses the window types that best complement them:

Modern

Modern homes boast expansive glass areas, which means they tend to have many windows. This allows them to capture expansive views of the outdoors while bringing in plenty of natural lighting. Some modern homes even have floor-to-ceiling windows for the best effect. If ventilation is a problem, however, sliding and casement windows are excellent alternatives. Consider matching different specialty windows to create a unique focal point.

Tudor

Reflecting the British Medieval architecture from the 1500s, Tudor homes feature an asymmetrical structure and complex layout. They are also well known for their steep-sloped roofs and decorative half-timbering on the exterior. The impressive architecture of Tudor homes makes them more versatile in terms of window selection. Our window replacement team can help you choose a style that would best suit your personal style and needs.

Craftsman

Craftsman homes usually have gabled or low-pitched roofs. They also feature varied exterior materials such as wood, vinyl and stone. On the interior, they feature exposed beams and open floor plans. Details play an important role in a Craftsman home, which is why their windows always have decorative features. Double-hung windows are one of the most commonly used types, but casement windows are another great choice if you want to maximize ventilation. Most of the time, the windows are installed in groups of twos or threes.
