Double-Hung vs. Single-Hung Windows

Both have frames that allow for two sashes, one for the top half and another one for the bottom half. The sashes will typically have muntins that hold the glass in place as well as give some depth in the window design. The only thing different is that in single-hung window replacement  the top sash is not operable—that is, it doesn’t move. Double-hung windows are so called because both sashes can be slid up or down, allowing for more control over how much air can get in your home.

Advantages of Double-Hung Windows

This double-sliding action provides many advantages. For one, it makes double-hung windows easier to clean because two operable sashes can give you access to areas that otherwise would have been harder-to-reach. Also, double-hung windows can ventilate a room better than a single-hung window.
