Upcycling Your Old Windows

Investing in window replacement can do wonders for your home. But what happens to your old windows? While most contractors will dispose of them for you, you might want to consider other options, as there are clever ways you can breathe new life into them.

Today, Renewal by Andersen® of Portland shares some ideas on how to upcycle and reuse old windows.

Garden Structures

If you remove the glass from your replacement windows, the frames left behind make for an excellent climbing frame for vines. Consider putting up fast-growing climbing ivy to create a temporary shady area for your backyard nook, or maybe grow a healthy organic home garden for your family’s use. The frames can also be disassembled as support structures for saplings, or even as walls for a raised gardening bed.

Old Windows, New Furniture

If your old windows have no visible physical deformities, you can use them as a top for a nifty crafter’s coffee table. This involves some medium-level handiness, but transforming old windows into useful and new furniture shouldn’t be a challenge for enterprising DIY-enthusiasts. Of course, you’ll need to think a little bit outside the box to see all the possibilities.

You’ve Got Frames

The trims and sashes of old replacement windows are often carved with beautiful patterns that are simply too wasteful to discard. Why not use these existing frames and turn them into actual frames for photographs and paintings?
